How to Find Your Ring Size

Have you ever struggled with finding your ring size? Well, you're not the only one!

When it comes to jewelry sizing, rings can be the hardest to figure out. Necklaces can be very forgiving and can fit a wide range of necks but rings are a whole different matter.

Here at Silver and Ivy we've been selling jewelry, including rings, for over a decade and have become pretty good at helping people figure out their ring sizes. Here are just a few tips and tricks to make sure you get the right fit for your finger!

How to find your ring size by Silver and Ivy

Tips to help you find your ring size:

TEMPERATURE IS IMPORTANT - Finger size changes with temperature. Fingers get bigger in warm weather and shrink in cold weather. Measure your finger in warm temperatures at the end of the day, when the finger will be at is largest.

MEASURE MORE THAN ONCE - Ring should fit snugly and slide smoothly on your finger, but shouldn’t come off easily. You want to make sure it won't fall off as well as not putting too much pressure on your fingers. Check your size more than once. Measuring repeatedly can help you get the right fit the first time and prevent you from having to resize the ring.

CONSIDER THE RING TYPE - Wide rings (about 3 millimeters or more) require a larger size for most people. This is because a wide band allows more space under the band for the finger than narrow rings do. If your ring size fits snugly try sizing up if purchasing a thicker band.

FINGERS ARE DIFFERENT - Generally speaking, one of your hands is slightly larger (about half a size) than the other. This hand is usually your dominant hand. To avoid errors, it is important to measure the finger you plan to wear the ring on.

ACCOUNT FOR YOUR KNUCKLE SIZE - If the base of your finger is a lot smaller than your finger knuckle measure both the base of your finger and your knuckle, and select a size in between the two. That will help you choose a size that will allow the ring to slide over your knuckle but won’t be too large to be comfortably worn on the base of your finger.

GO BIGGER - When two sizes seem to fit or if you get two different finger measurements, it’s advisable you go for the bigger measurement or consult a professional if you can. For best measurements, take your measurements in millimeters.

Get an adjustable ring

Did you know that there are adjustable rings? And these aren't like those adjustable ones you would get as a kid in the gumball machine for a quarter!

These are rings that have a bit of an opening that allows you to adjust the size. Adjustable rings are GREAT for people who don't know their ring size, for gifting because it's hard to figure out others ring sizes and if there are frequent fluctuations in ring size such as when you're pregnant or prone to swelling.

Here at Silver and Ivy we've recently added several adjustable ring options, you can see them below:
